Council's web recruiting a first
The country's first fully-interactive public sector recruitment website has been set up says Hertfordshire County Council.

The development is designed to make it easier for candidates to apply for jobs, as well as speeding up recruitment.

Roles in libraries, the environment department, fire and rescue and communications technology are all be offered via the web.

The recruitment site features "intelligent" functions from e-application forms, minute by minute updates on job vacancies, online CV and career advice and an email "job alert" system.

Less money on bureaucracy

A similar system has already been successfully tried out for teacher recruitment in Hertfordshire.

It led to 470 teachers being hired last year.

David Beatty, executive member for resources, said the council was committed to making it easier and more convenient for local people to apply for jobs at the council.

"The new system will not only help applicants but by reducing the number of paper applications it will mean that we are able to spend less time and money on bureaucracy and put all our efforts into getting the best person for the job."
