'Heavenly' idea for new festival

Reading looks set to get another major music event following the loss of the Womad Festival two years ago.

Womad used to attract 40,000 people a year to the town before it left for a new site in Wiltshire.

But Reading Borough Council has now unveiled plans for a new two-day event, called Heavenly Planet, due to take place on the rock festival site.

Councillors will consider the idea at a meeting on 29 September with organisers hoping the event will start next year.

The weekend of 10-11 July has been pencilled in as a likely date for the festival.

The council said it hoped about 15,000 people would attend in year one with this figure rising as it becomes better established.
