Heavy snowfall across Berkshire led to up to four inches (10cm) settling in parts of the county overnight.
The Met Office issued a severe weather warning and more snow is expected with temperatures set to dip to -4C later.
Motorists faced long delays getting to work, 30 schools were closed and racing at Ascot has been abandoned because of the snow.
South Central Ambulance Service told the BBC it reported a 100% increase in calls.
Mark Ainsworth, ambulance divisional manager, said conditions were "very dangerous" and that crews struggled to get to the calls.
"We have had a lot of minor road accidents where people have driven past and seen cars in ditches," he added.
"It's always important to check if the people are all right in the car before you call for an ambulance. Most of the calls we are receiving people aren't injured."
