Heavy snow falls across Berkshire

Thirty schools have been closed in parts of Berkshire

Heavy snow swept across Berkshire with up to four inches settling in parts of the county overnight.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning and more snow is expected later.

Motorists have been facing long delays, 30 schools have been closed and racing at Ascot has been abandoned because of the snow.

South Central Ambulance Service has reported a 100 % increase in the number of calls received.

Mark Ainsworth, ambulance divisional manager, said: "It is very dangerous out there and our crews are struggling to get to the calls we are receiving.

"We have had a lot of minor road accidents where people have driven past and seen cars in ditches.

"It's always important to check if the people are alright in the car before you call for an ambulance. Most of the calls were are receiving people aren't injured."

Reading buses are running but passengers have been advised to go to main road bus stops.
