BRI chosen for 52m heart unit
Bristol Royal Infirmary Building
The new unit is expected to open in the next seven years
The Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) has been chosen as the preferred site for a new 52m cardiac centre.

The purpose-built facility is expected to dramatically improve waiting times for operations.

The BRI already has adult and child heart surgery services and links with medical experts at Bristol University.

Fewer than 2% of heart patients die following bypass operations in Bristol, making the city one of the safest places in the UK to have the operation.

Plans for the new centre have been agreed as part of the Bristol Health Services Plan.

It means that most heart operations in the West should soon be performed at the BRI.

The unit is expected to be up and running within the next seven years.
