Asylum seeker to see wife and son
Luis Orozco
Mr Orozco looks forward to seeing his family after a month apart
A Colombian asylum seeker who turned to a Bristol church for sanctuary is due to be reunited with his family.

Luis Orozco sought refuge at St Nicholas of Tolentino church in Easton when his wife and son were taken to a detention centre last month.

Their asylum application has now been rejected, but they have leave to rejoin Mr Orozco while an appeal is lodged.

He said he was disappointed at the Home Office decision but was looking forward to seeing his family again.

"The next step is the appeal. Maybe they didn't have sufficient time to review all the evidence that we sent to the Home Office," he said.

Father Richard McKay, the priest of St Nicholas of Tolentino, said: "The campaign to save this family from being deported back to Columbia and certain death at the hands of the military will continue.

"It's another example of how disgraceful the asylum system is."
