Protesters hope to save hospital
Protesters want the hospital to remain open
Campaigners fighting to save Cossham Hospital in Kingswood are protesting at the Council House in Bristol.

They are opposed to plans by North Bristol NHS Trust to close the hospital and relocate its services.

The council's Scrutiny Committee is meeting on Tuesday afternoon to hear from members of the Save Cossham Hospital group.

Consultation over the closure is being carried out and a decision on the hospital is due on 1 March.

'Big overhead'

David Tapen, from North Bristol NHS Trust, said: "It's an old building - it was built over 100 years ago.

"It's really quite inflexible and has high running and maintenance costs."

Cossham Hospital became a day facility in 2000 when some services were transferred to Frenchay and Blackberry Hill.

Current facilities include x-ray, physiotherapy and mental health teams.

Cossham's closure was first proposed in the Bristol Health Services Plan at the end of 2004.
