Chew Valley lake is one of Bristol Water's three major reservoirs
|
Reservoirs in the Bristol Water area are 92% full after the second highest annual rainfall on record.
Levels are 17% higher than the same time last year, according to Bristol Water figures which date back to 1855.
Despite a dry April, rainfall between May and July was 371mm, nearly half of that fell in May - 233% of the average.
If the average rainfall this winter is typical, all three major reservoirs are likely to overflow earlier than in recent years, the company said.
"This is really just showing how the lack of a long dry summer affected the amount of water taken from our reservoirs," said a spokesman.
"[It means] we started the winter period - the time when they begin to fill up - with higher levels than we have seen recently."
