More snow predicted for weekend

Drivers are facing difficult conditions on many roads

Scattered snow showers, heavy in some areas, and a bitingly cold wind are predicted for Cambridgeshire over the weekend, the Met Office has said.

Temperatures across the county could drop to -4C (25F) overnight.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire County Council said its gritting lorries are still operating a full service.

The council has enough salt for five or six days in stock and is expecting another delivery over the weekend, he added.

Train services were hit by cancellations and delays on Friday, while just four schools closed across the whole county.

Police in the county and insurance companies said the number of thefts during the recent spate of cold weather had increased.

Motorists were warned not to leave keys in the ignition of a car while it is defrosting.

The East of England Ambulance Service has hired 4x4 vehicles to get to emergency call-outs during the icy weather.
