Salvaged boat is to form exhibit
National Maritime Museum
The exhibition is to be staged at Falmouth's National Maritime Museum
A 40ft piece of Team Phillips, Pete Goss' revolutionary catamaran, is going on display in Falmouth in Cornwall.

The catamaran, salvaged nearly four years ago, will be the main exhibit at the National Maritime Museum next year.

The vessel and its crew captured the world's attention as they prepared to take part in The Race in 2000, a no-holds barred round the world challenge.

But the catamaran had to be abandoned on the way to the start of the race in 70 knot winds and 10m-high waves.

40ft of the original 120ft hull was eventually salvaged from the sea off Iceland.

The catamaran was 120ft long and 70ft wide - larger than centre court at Wimbledon and was designed to be the biggest, fastest and most hi-tech of boats.

Now, along with other objects, photographs, equipment and memorabilia the salvaged piece will form the main exhibition at the museum from January 2005.
