The government is refusing to wipe out the hospital deficit

The trust which runs Cornwall's main hospital has slipped further into debt.
A report by the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust says the hospital at Treliske near Truro overspent by nearly �6m in the last financial year.
The deficit, which was �4.2m in 2001, has risen to �5.8m. The government has refused to write the debt off.
The report, which was prepared by the trust's director of finance and information, Philip Madeley, blames a series of extra costs.
They include a rise in emergency admissions and the large number of holiday makers who need treatment.
Talks are taking place with primary care trusts in an attempt to reduce the increase in emergency admissions.
