Approval given for sewage works
South West Water is being urged to upgrade its proposals for a 6m sewage treatment scheme in Cornwall.

St Just Town Council says it has some concerns the proposed work does not go far enough, although the scheme has now been approved.

But South West Water says the project will meet EU water directives.

Until now raw sewage has been pumped into the sea near Lands End at sites at St Just, Botallack and Pendeen.

Some local residents claim increased sewage discharges will damage the environment and had called for full ultra violet treatment, but South West Water says the multi-million-pound scheme will improve the coastline.
