SW sites make coastline shortlist
St Michaels Mount
People can vote for St Michaels Mount in the national contest
Six sites in Devon and Cornwall have been shortlisted in a competition to find the best coastline in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The public can vote for Cape Cornwall, the Lizard, St Michaels's Mount and Zennor Head in Cornwall and Morte Point and Soar Mill Cove in Devon.

The competition is being run by the National Trust.

Other contenders include the White Cliffs of Dover, Giant's Causeway, Lindisfarne Castle and Studland Beach.

'Vital work'

The National Trust's Vote For The Coast contest will run over the next 13 weeks.

The cost of phone votes will help raise money for the Neptune Coastline Campaign Fund, which has played a key role in helping the trust look after more than 700 miles of coastline.

Gill Raikes, fundraising director at the National Trust, said: "The Neptune Coastline Campaign is one of the UK's longest running environmental campaigns and has helped the trust acquire important stretches of our coastline to provide access for all, prevent inappropriate development and enable generations of holidaymakers and day-trippers to come and enjoy all that the coast has to offer.

"We now want to find out which stretch of National Trust coast means the most to the public and in doing so also raise important funds to continue our vital work."
