Alfred Wainwright wrote more than 50 books

Walkers in Cumbria are urged to climb one of the county's 270 fells to mark the 50th anniversary of the works of one of the area's literary greats.
Alfred Wainwright published the first of his Pictorial Guides to the Lake District in May 1955.
Since then, the series has sold almost two million copies.
The Wainwright Society wants walkers to climb one of the fells this May and write about it, with the accounts published later this year.
Gentle stroll
Wainwright, who died in 1991, wrote more than 50 books, including seven Lakeland pictorial guides.
He was born in Blackburn in 1907, the son of a stonemason, who left school at the age of 13.
Ten years later he went on holiday to the Lake District and said he immediately fell in love with the area.
The Wainwright Society wants walkers to climb the fells between 14 and 21May and write a report, which, along with photographs or Wainwright drawings, will be compiled in a book to be published later in 2005.
There are suitable walks for anyone, from strenuous ascents to gentle strolls, and the society hopes as many people as possible will take part.
