Man quizzed over �15m drug haul

Detectives investigating a �15m cocaine haul have been given more time to question a suspect.

Cumbria Police have been given until Thursday morning by magistrates to hold a 54-year-old man from Nottingham.

Three men were remanded in custody on Tuesday by Kendal magistrates, charged with conspiracy to import cocaine.

Officers discovered 140kg of the class A drug on Saturday after CID officers stopped and searched two lorries at the Essex port of Harwich.

The vehicles are believed to have come into the UK from Holland.

Police bail

Darren Morris, 32, Mark Neville, 41, both of Preston, and Peter Hannigan, 49, of Kendal, were remanded and will appear at Carlisle Crown Court on 7 July.

Mr Neville and Mr Hannigan are also charged in connection with the seizure of amphetamine, valued at �10,000, which was found in Preston.

Six men were originally arrested as part of the long-running investigation, which also involved officers from Lancashire Police and HM Customs.

Two other men, from Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire and Grantham, Lincolnshire, have been released on police bail.
