Domestic abusers to be targeted

Known offenders are to be targeted in a campaign to reduce to domestic violence in Cumbria over Christmas.

Police will be visiting and monitoring high risk abusers as part of the campaign over the next few weeks.

Officers will also wear "headcams" when they are called out to deal with domestic violence.

The devices can be used to take discreet footage of violent incidents which can then be used in court as evidence in prosecution cases.

Temporary Superintendent of Cumbria's public protection unit, Andy Slattery, said: "The overall aim of this campaign is to protect vulnerable people and ensure that potential victims and their children have a happy and safe Christmas.

"Domestic abuse is a gross breach of trust and is committed by the weak and cowardly against the vulnerable."
