Pub age check scheme extended
An effort to combat under-age drinking in Ripley is to be extended to other parts of Derbyshire.

Since Christmas, landlords in the town's pubs have been issuing wristbands to drinkers who looked under 21 but could prove they were over 18.

Now the scheme will be rolled out to bars, pubs and clubs in the towns of Long Eaton and Ilkeston.

Police said it had made Ripley a much safer place to live by cutting down on anti-social behaviour.

Responsible drinking

The original pilot aimed to keep under 18s away from the bars involved but stop over 18s feeling victimised.

Pc Mick Baker said: "It keeps alcohol away from the underage drinkers.

"It encourages the bar staff to do what they should do to check ages.

"And more responsible drinking leads to a drop in crime."
