Vintage station's ticket to ride
Train at Midland Railway Centre
The trust has been going since the 1970s
A Victorian railway station is to be moved brick by brick from its present location in Leicestershire to a new home at a Derbyshire museum.

The Midland Railway Trust in Ripley has been given permission to move the station because its current location is about to be redeveloped.

Syston station, located on the outskirts of Leicester, dates from the 1850s but has not been used for years.

The trust says the station building will complete its Swanwick site.

'Tipped off'

Other buildings at the museum have been moved in this way but development officer Allan Calladine admitted this was "a big project".

He said: "It is a typical large country station - it's a brick-built station in three bays and has all the normal facilities including a waiting room, a porter's room, all the typical things you would expect from a country station of this time."

Mr Calladine added: "It is pure luck we heard about this and an awful lot of the things we acquire are down to people tipping us off."

The building has been obtained free of change but the trust will organise the reconstruction itself.

The project is expected to take at least four years to complete.
