Group to oppose recycling centre
Residents in one part of Derby are planning to fight proposals to open a recycling plant there.

About 100 Spondon residents turned up to a meeting on Sunday to discuss their concerns and organise opposition.

They fear dozens of lorries would use the waste site every day, bringing the busy Nottingham Road to a standstill.

Protest organisers said there were issues of safety and pollution to be considered, but the city council said the application was at an early stage.

Resident David Clark said: "We are objecting to the noise pollution and the light pollution these 38 tonne lorries are going to create.

"A further hundred or so of these lorries are going to create tremendous gridlock and everyone eventually, I fear, will suffer."

The waste firm, R U Recycling, said it was prepared to meet with residents.
