Collapsed crane to be discussed
Toppled crusher
The crusher was believed to have fallen through a cavity
Health and safety inspectors are due to meet contractors on Tuesday to discuss precautions on a site in Devon where a 60-tonne crusher fell over.

Several demolition workers narrowly escaped when the demolition machine collapsed in Plymouth last week.

A caterpillar track on the 250,000 CAT crusher sunk into rubble at the site in Old Town Street.

Since the crane was righted, work has been going on under restrictions set by the Health and Safety Executive.

A 300-tonne crane had to be brought in from London to raise the toppled crusher, which was thought to have broken through into an undetected void below ground.

Health and Safety Executive representatives will meet contractors for further discussions as to how the work is going.

It was a bad start to the 170m Drake Circus shopping redevelopment.

However, the overall scheme is being widened fast, with contractors now working on the Drake Circus roundabout.

Within days, demolition is due to start on the adjacent early-1970s office block.
