Appledore has a long history of shipbuilding

A group of residents is opposing plans to build houses on an historic shipbuilding site in Devon.
Plans have been submitted for nine homes on Richmond Dock in Appledore but opponents say the listed site is an important part of the town's heritage.
Residents have now formed the New Quay Action Group and are holding a meeting at Appledore Hall on Tuesday evening.
Last year, the site's owner, Michael Wilcox, had plans for 12 homes rejected by Torridge District Council.
The council received 104 objections to the original proposal and residents are now trying to mobilise opposition again.
They want to see the dock used again for shipbuilding and repair.
A cargo ship was recently repaired at the dock, employing about 30 technicians.
