The Sherford Valley has been earmarked for 4,000 new homes

Four villages are now proposed at Sherford near Brixton in the South Hams, as opposed to the three that were envisaged previously.

The new plan reflects work done over the last few months by the various partners in the scheme including South Hams, Devon and Plymouth councils.

The development will be made up of what are being described as four "walkable" neighbourhoods, each with 4,000 homes.

'Get involved'

There will also be a new hospital, new secondary school and three primary schools.

As part of the consultation process, South Hams District Council has arranged a number of events where the public can discuss the plans.

Councillor Ted Mitchell from South Hams District Council, said: "We hope that people will take the chance to get involved in shaping the future of the whole district and will come along in good numbers to the events we have organised."

Any comments on the plans must be received by the council on 5 August.
