Half of those surveyed believe binge drinking is a problem
A survey of teenagers carried out by a Devon MP has revealed 90% of them would be prepared to leave Torbay in order to find a better job.

The findings also revealed that half of those questioned believe binge drinking was a major problem in the area.

It is the third time the Liberal Democrat MP for Torbay, Adrian Sanders, has carried out a survey of sixth formers in his constituency.

177 teenagers were quizzed on issues from employment to law and order.

Mr Sanders said he is alarmed the vast majority of them would leave Torbay to find a better job.

He said: "I have written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer to comment on how this can be changed to improve the prospects for young people and other job seekers in the area."

The survey also asked questions about drugs and alcohol.

50% of teenagers thought binge drinking was a problem in Torbay, with 66% believing drug abusers should be offered treatment rather than punishment.

The sixth-formers also said buses were their most frequently used form of transport.

They also overwhelmingly agreed that tuition fees could deter people from going to university.
