Bug at college hits 500 students
Paignton Community College
The college has cancelled events to contain the bug
About 500 pupils are absent from a Devon school because of a highly contagious stomach bug.

About 25% of Paignton Community College's 2,000 students have been affected by the outbreak.

The school has cancelled a parents' evening and has also called off all its sporting fixtures to stop the bug, which causes vomiting, from spreading.

Education authority Torbay Council has written to schools in its district with guidelines on how to deal with the bug.

Students are being advised to take extra care in their personal hygiene to stop it spreading further.

Those who have the bug are being told to stay at home for at least 48 hours after the symptoms have cleared up.

There are no plans to close Paignton Community College despite the outbreak.

The same bug affected students at King Edward VI Community College in Totnes a week ago.
