A Devon electronics factory is to cut its workforce by half by making 95 redundancies.
The AVX base in Paignton makes specialist parts for mobile phones.
A spokesman for AVX's headquarters in the US said there had been a reduction in orders for the parts made by the Devon factory.
A GMB union spokesman said they feared more jobs could still go. A 30-day consultation is expected to be held on the redundancies.
The GMB spokesman said: "AVX are quite clear that they are a company that is free of debt and that this is one of their best years. It is a sell out for their workforce."
The AVX spokesman they could not make any assurances for the future.
