Paint slogans target second homes

The village's parish council described the slogans as "mindless vandalism"

Vandals have painted slogans thought to be directed towards prospective holiday home buyers in a Dorset village.

Slogans such as "Greed" and "Go Away" were found on roads and bricks in Worth Matravers, where four new properties have recently gone on the market.

The houses replaced a craft centre and cafe after council planning approval.

Parish council chair Joyce Meates said the slogans were "mindless" but that some people had been against more homes.

"When the cafe and craft centre closed about two years ago, there was a petition against the planning application for houses," said Mrs Meates.

"Feelings ran high in the village at the time when it was approved.

"Just one or two have gone too far, which is a shame because it does not help anyone."

Villager Roy Pritchard said: "I think there are enough holiday homes in the village, however I think the vandals are cowards."
