The importance of wetland habitats is being celebrated in Gloucestershire.

The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge throws open its doors for free on Sunday and Monday to mark World Wetlands Day.

The centre is an important environment for many types of birds and wildlife. It is the only place in the world that is home to all six species of flamingo.

The Wetlands Day commemorates the signing of an international treaty in 1971, to protect vital wetland areas.

Slimbridge is home to a huge variety of feathered wetland inhabitants, from swans to geese and ducks and more exotic birds.

Special activities taking place over the two days include a chance to make foam flamingo badges and wetland plates.

Free admission to the Slimbridge centre is for Sunday 1 February and Monday 2 February only.
