Leaflet warns youths about drug
Ketamine
The leaflet will be launched on 23 May
A leaflet about the dangers of Ketamine is to be distributed in the Forest of Dean where the drug has been identified as a particular problem.

Ketamine is an anaesthetic which makes users vulnerable to being sexually assaulted, said police. An overdose can cause death.

"The problem with Ketamine has been escalating recently," said Inspector Steve Burnside.

The leaflet is aimed specifically at young people.

KETAMINE
Slang: Special K
Has strong hallucinogenic and painkilling properties
High doses bring on a strong trip
Some tablets sold as ecstasy include Ketamine
Long term effects are unknown

The Forest of Dean Crime and Disorder Partnership (CDRP) is the first to send out the leaflet but it is anticipated other councils in England will follow.

"The dangers of this drug are not widely known as it is fairly new on the drugs scene," said Melanie Getgood, of the CDRP.

The launch of the leaflet coincides with Tackling Drugs Day on 23 May, part of a Home Office campaign.

Gloucestershire Drug And Alcohol Team will be showcasing their work at a display stand at Eastgate Shopping Centre, Gloucester, on the day.
