Island bus services will restart
Two rural bus services which stopped when a government grant ran out are to restart next month.

The two services on the Isle of Wight will serve North Wootton, Havenstreet, Yaverland and Brading.

They were introduced in 2002 when Isle of Wight won nearly 500,000 of a government pot set aside for bus services to under-served rural areas.

The services will now be run by the authority's Wightbus buses. They will begin again on 5 September.

'Not left isolated'

Councillor Ian Ward, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for transport, said: "The island received 426,529 over 2.5 years from the government to set up and run bus services to these rural areas where commercial bus services are not viable.

"Since the demise of these services, the council has had to step into the breach, and I am pleased that we have been able to ensure that people who rely on these bus services have not been left isolated."

The Village Link Bus (route number 103) links North Wootton with Wootton Village centre, Havenstreet and Ryde.

The Wave Bus (route number 104) links Sandown Railway Station with the Town centre, Yaverland and Brading.
