Police raid owl sanctuary
An owl sanctuary has been raided by police, after an inquiry into the illegal trading of wild birds was reopened following a BBC investigation.

A 62-year-old man was arrested during the operation at the New Forest Owl Sanctuary, at Ringwood, Hampshire, at 0800 BST on Friday.

Two other addresses were raided including a nearby home, with the help of RSPCA officers and a specialist aviary veterinary surgeon.

The sanctuary's owner, Bruce Berry, has denied there is anything wrong with working practices at the sanctuary.

The arrested man, who has not been named, was taken to Lyndhurst Police station for questioning on suspicion of the theft of a Saker Falcon.

On Friday night a Hampshire police spokeswoman said the 62-year-old man arrested in connection with wildlife offences had been bailed pending further inquiries.

An original police investigation into the centre began 18 months ago but was subsequently dropped.

It was reopened following a report by BBC South's Inside Out team last month.
