British Waterways hopes to have the canals reopened by 2009

Volunteers are giving up a week of their summer to help with the restoration of the Droitwich Canals.
The Waterway Recovery Group is working to restore the Barge Lock, a link between the two canals in Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire.
British Waterways hopes to restore both canals and reopen them for navigation by 2009.
Workers are spending the next few days repairing the lock's chamber walls, gate structures and a swing bridge.
