The roof of Canterbury Cathedral needs to be replaced

Canterbury Cathedral has created a development office to secure long-term funding so the building can continue to be maintained for future generations.
The office will work to raise money for conservation programmes and improved facilities for visitors.
Ex-Army Brigadier David Innes, 52, has been appointed to lead the office.
He said the cathedral was first and foremost a church, but was also a world heritage site and a major visitor attraction which needed looking after.
Global appeal
"It gets no government or state funding at all. It gets no funding from English Heritage, and therefore it has to be totally self sufficient in looking after itself, and that is quite a challenge," he said.
Mr Innes said the cathedral raised enough money from visitor charges to fund the day-to-day maintenance.
However, it could not fund major conservation projects and the immediate priority was to replace the roof.
