The theft of a cement mixer from a wildlife park could delay improvement work to a beaver enclosure being prepared to house two new families.
Thieves cut through the perimeter fence at Wildwood, near Canterbury in Kent. The cement mixer was found to be missing early on Thursday.
Two new beaver familes are due to arrive at Wildwood from Europe, and the work was to meet quarantine standards.
"We really need the mixer," said head ranger Chris Towner.
"Having to mix the cement by hand will take so much longer, so we are hoping it won't delay things too much."
The park said it was not insured for the theft.
The improvements to the beaver enclosure are park of a scheme to re-establish the species as a nature conservation tool in the wild.
Beavers, which help maintain ponds and wetlands, were hunted to extinction in the UK in the 17th Century.
