Patient waiting lists hit target
Burnley General Hospital
Patients at Burnley General Hospital are waiting less time say trust
Hospitals in East Lancashire have met their waiting list targets.

Patients treated by the East Lancashire NHS Trust - which manages hospitals in Blackburn and Burnley - are waiting no longer than nine months for surgery.

The numbers of people waiting more than 13 weeks for an outpatients appointment has also fallen to 289, against a target of around 600.

Richard Gildert, the acting chief executive of the trust, described the figures as a major achievement.

Staff thanked

There are currently 8,100 patients waiting for surgery in East Lancashire.

But the trust says it has met the NHS target that no patient should wait more than nine months for their operation.

The trust runs Blackburn's Queens Park and Royal Infirmary Hospitals, together with Burnley General, and hospitals in Rawtenstall and Nelson.

The trust says no patients have had to wait more than 17 weeks for a hospital appointment, since being referred by their GP.

Mr Gildert described the figures as a major achievement and thanked all the staff who helped bring the waiting times down.
