Salmon found after river clean-up
Salmon
Salmon have been discovered in the Hodder
A project to clean up a river and introduce more fish has been successful in Lancashire.

Salmon have been discovered in the River Hodder in the Ribble Valley after a scheme to raise and release the young fish in the water.

The salmon are bred on a fish farm in Dunsop Bridge, before they are released into the Hodder.

The fish can spend up to three years at sea, before returning to the river where they were hatched.

Artificial gravel traps which mimic natural conditions, and special ponds, have been created for the scheme, run by United Utilities, the Environment Agency and a fisheries organisation.
