Church falls victim to vandalism
Vandalised church
Neighbours are being asked to help stop further vandalism attacks
A vicar says vandalism is hampering efforts to build a new church for his congregation.

Now he plans to leaflet hundreds of householders to ask for their help.

In the last month alone St Christopher's church, in the middle of Leicester's Saffron Lane Estate, has had its windows broken, graffiti scrawled on its walls and even its doors set alight.

The church has seen vandalism before - but not to this scale or intensity.

The Reverend Alan Telford says the situation is demoralising, and also endangers young children visiting the church.

He also says it jeopardises efforts to raise funds for a replacement church and community church.

"We're trying to raise half a million pounds for a new building and the 2,000 it's going to cost to replace the windows and the doors could go towards that."

Those running the tiny church are now appealing for neighbours to be extra vigilant - and report the culprits.
