There is increasing pressure on the leader of Leicester's City Council, Roger Blackmore, to resign.
Mr Blackmore - who is a Liberal Democrat - was found guilty of drink driving earlier this week.
The Labour group has tabled a vote of no confidence against him for Thursday's full council meeting.
Labour Councillor Mary Draycott denies it is political opportunism, instead insisting he has lost credibility and the moral high ground.
Proper behaviour
On Monday Mr Blackmore was given a 12 month ban for drink driving despite pleading not guilty on a technicality.
If the motion is accepted by the council it can be voted on immediately.
Ms Draycott insisted increasing pressure is falling on the leader to resign but even if the motion fails a complaint by anyone to the Standards Board could result in him losing his role as councillor.
She added: "The rules and regulations for councillors are very strict these days.
"You have to make declarations of interest and you have to behave in a proper manner.
"In the past few years they have got very severe and therefore as a leader of a council you are expected to lead by example."
