Awards for students' volunteering
Volunteers from De Montfort University will be rewarded for their good work in their neighbourhood at the Involve Celebration Evening on Wednesday.

The Student Community Action project helps students get engaged in their community, by providing volunteering and training opportunities.

Graham Allcott, director of Student Volunteering England, will present awards at the Leicester Campus Centre.

He will hand out Special Achievement, Volunteer of the Year and Gold awards.

The idea is to enable personal, social and career development.

Involve provides students with volunteering opportunities working with Age Concern, RSPCA, Salvation Army, The Samaritans, Youth Offending Team and schools.

Students also help organise Leicester Caribbean Carnival and the Leicester Comedy Festival.

Izzy Hall, project officer for Involve, said: "The ceremony is important in valuing students' contribution to their community and rewarding them for all their hard work.

"Involve is a vital scheme as it helps students develop skills that employers are looking for and to gain work experience which will be really beneficial when they graduate."
