Vulcan bomber project could fold

The Vulcan was retired from service in 1984
Organisers of an East Midlands project to return a Vulcan bomber to the skies have said it could come to an end because of a funding shortfall.

Engineers in Leicestershire have spent eight years restoring the Avro Vulcan bomber and had planned test flights this summer.

It is thought to be the only Vulcan in the world which could fly again.

But organisers have been hit by rising costs and warned flights might never take off without extra funding.

The project is being carried out at a hangar in Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire and has been backed by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The plane last flew from RAF Waddington near Lincoln more than a decade ago.

Vulcans were long-range bombers designed during the Cold War and were retired from active service in 1984.
