Flyover plans to be reconsidered
The Highways Agency has announced it will reconsider proposals for a controversial flyover link between the M1 and the M69.

Residents in the Leicester Forest East area had objected to the plan which they said would bring traffic past their homes at bedroom height.

The plans are part of the M1 widening scheme and a link road with the M69 was suggested to cut congestion.

Leicestershire County Council has described the move as a "huge victory".

The Highways Agency will now reconsult residents and look at alternative ways to link the motorways.

David Parsons, leader of the county council, announced the news on BBC Radio Leicester's breakfast show on Monday.

He said: "I hope we can bring a satisfactory conclusion to what has been a rather unhappy episode."
