Last hope for Vulcan bomber bid
The Vulcan under restoration
The team says it has raised nearly half the money needed
An open day could be the last hope for a nine-year project to restore a Cold War aircraft to flying condition.

The public is being invited to see the Vulcan bomber in Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire, to help raise funding to complete the restoration.

The team have until the end of August to raise the 1m needed, with the fund currently standing at 400,000.

They hope to raise the extra money through donations from members of the public.

Organisers said progress was being made with the plane having recently been successfully taken off its jacks for the first time.

The team of 32 engineers has already been given notice of redundancy.

There are more than a dozen Vulcans, which were retired from service in 1984, but the Bruntingthorpe plane is the only one with a realistic chance of flying again.

It last flew from RAF Waddington near Lincoln more than a decade ago.
