Vandals kill park pond ducklings

Bennion Pools
The area has recently received 50,000 from the lottery

Vandals who damaged a Leicester nature reserve also killed two ducklings in the attack, police have said.

The incident, which saw new trees snapped and a sign thrown into a pond, happened at Bennion Pools in Beaumont Leys last Saturday night.

The Friends of Bennion Pools, which has transformed the area from a water treatment plant, said the incident has left them feeling "sick".

Officers have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Chair of the Friends, Mr John Greasely, said the attack would have an effect on the whole community.

"The death of the ducklings is bad enough in itself but lots of young children use that park and you don't want them seeing that sort of thing.

"There has been a little surge in these sorts of incidents lately and while they are not too big on their own, they do add up and leave you feeling a bit sick."
