Crisis hospital faces shake-up
Patients in Lincolnshire are being reassured the future of Louth hospital is secure, despite major changes at the unit.

They include the merger of the out of hours doctor's service with the accident and emergency department.

The change scheduled for next April should ease the staffing problems at the hospital which has seen some patients transferred to Lincoln or Grimsby for treatment.

The future of the hospital had been in doubt for some time because of the recruitment crisis.

The new Executive Director at Louth, Sarah Skelton, said her role was to sort out the problems, particularly in Accident and Emergency.

She has now announced a raft of new measures.

One of the medical wards will deal with the assessment process, the current Lindsey high dependency unit will become a coronary care unit and the other ward will be for people who need specialist nursing care.

Ms Skelton said the changes will get the full backing of local GPs.
