Flashing signs at road blackspots
Speedometer
Speed is a factor in many road deaths
Reactive signs, which light up to warn speeding motorists, are being installed at Lincolnshire blackspots.

The first two signs have been placed at the A153 Belchford crossroads, near Horncastle, and on the A17 at Sutterton.

Lincolnshire's Road Safety Partnership says the sites were chosen because of the high number of accidents.

The partnership will be installing a further six signs at other sites in the near future.

It says evidence from trials in other areas, such as Norfolk, shows people who regularly drive on a route with a reactive sign slow down to avoid triggering it and unfamiliar drivers react quickly to the flashing.

Lincolnshire authorities have been battling to reduce the county's road toll for some time.

In 2002, 93 people were killed, 631 were seriously injured and 3,381 received slight injuries in road accidents.
