The future of an ancient woodland in Lincolnshire has been secured by a lottery windfall of 700,000.
The Lincolnshire Limewoods, which covers 140 square kilometres near Lincoln, is cared for by a local voluntary group and the county council.
The cash will pay for a planting programme to create a further 60 hectares of forest and a new classroom and shelter over the five next years.
The area is home to several sites of archaelogical interest.
The new woodland will reconnect separate sites of special scientific interest and provide work for local volunteer and community groups.
People will also be taught traditional skills in woodland management, building and land conservation at the centre at Chambers Farm Wood.
