Members of the county council agreed at a meeting on Tuesday that the mergers in Louth, Holton-le-Clay and Lincoln should go ahead.

Campaigners have said they will carry on with their fight to reverse the council's decision.

The council said mergers of junior and infant schools were necessary to tackle the falling number of pupils.

'Disrupted education'

Consultations will now be carried out on the joining of Louth's Eastfield Infant and Nursery school with Lacey Gardens Junior School.

The public will also be asked for its views on merging the Holton-le-Clay Infant and Holton-le-Clay Junior schools and Ermine Infant and Ermine Junior schools, in Lincoln.

Councillors have agreed to reconsider the merger of Gainsborough's White's Wood Lane Junior School with the Hillcrest Infants and Nursery School.

The plans have provoked concern among families across the county who fear children's education will be disrupted and have to travel further.
