MRSA targets not met by hospitals
Hospitals in Lincolnshire have failed to meet their targets for reducing MRSA infections - according to new figures.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust statistics show there were 74 cases by the end of February - more than the end of the financial year target of 66.

Chief Nurse for the trust, Sylvia Knights, said that an improvement plan had already been implemented and was already reducing outbreak rates.

But she added it would not be possible to totally eradicate the bugs.

"These bacteria are quite clever, they have evolved over many years and they're like us, they like to survive," she said.

"And some of the commonly-used antibiotics we have used in the past will not work against them anymore."
