Ali Dizaei returned to work in October after a two-year suspension from the Metropolitan Police.

The Iranian-born superintendent, one of Britain's most senior ethnic minority policemen, will undertake a promotion course next year, Scotland Yard says.

After his acquittal at the Old Bailey he reached a negotiated settlement with the force through arbitration.

Claims he was involved in drugs, prostitution and theft led to the Operation Helios investigation into his behaviour.

That inquiry is now being investigated by officers from another police force, supervised by the Police Complaints Authority (PCA).

Scotland Yard said on Tuesday he would be seconded to Ealing, west London for six weeks from mid-January as part of his "re-integration" into the force.

A spokesman said: "He has agreed a work plan with the borough commander, Martin Bridger, which has been designed to assist him in preparation for the Strategic Command Course in March 2004".

The six-month course prepares staff so they can apply for senior management jobs.

He will be joined on the course by Chief Superintendent Sean Sawyer, who was in overall control of the investigation into Mr Dizaei's behaviour.

Mr Dizaei accepted some criticisms about his behaviour as part of an agreement with the force.

He is understood to have dropped a threat to take the Met to an employment tribunal and to have received a payment for distress suffered.
