Car thief branded idiot by judge
A car thief who stole a vehicle and drove it straight to a police station has been branded an idiot by a judge.

Mohammed Zaman, 22, pleaded guilty to stealing the Toyota in Whitechapel, east London, last June.

London's Southwark Crown Court heard the car was not damaged and it was not reported stolen at the time.

Judge Paul Dodgson told Zaman: "Frankly you are an idiot... you took a car and handed it straight to the police." He was bailed until sentencing on 2 March.

'Odd offence'

After hearing the details of the case the judge said: "It's a little bizarre isn't it?

"You have committed an offence for which... you stand a reasonable chance of staying out of prison because it is an odd offence and you took a car and handed it straight to police.

"But if you carry on behaving like you have been, you will go to prison."

The court heard that when Zaman was arrested he told officers: "Someone put me up to it".
