Mr Guthrie's friend survived the shooting

Mr Guthrie, 35, was shot in Streatham High Road in the early hours of Monday.

His friend, who was also injured in the attack, remains in a comfortable condition in hospital.

Police said in response to concerns from the community additional patrols, supported by armed officers, would be patrolling the area until Sunday.

It is thought "an incident" inside the nearby Starlight Rooms nightclub may have led to Monday's shooting.

Gun recovered

Since then officers have been assessing security with clubs and bars and some venues have decided to remain closed this weekend.

Supt Alistair Sutherland said: "I appreciate that concerns among the community are high in the wake of the shooting in Streatham this week and other high-profile incidents involving guns.

"I can assure them we are working hard to alleviate those concerns and ensure Lambeth and all London boroughs remain safe places."

Nine people arrested in connection with the shooting have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Police have refused to discuss how many weapons were involved in the shooting.
